General
Biology
Welcome
to the General Biology web page! This page is designed to be used
by all NHS students enrolled in General Biology;
it
contains class information, policies, reference links and interactive
biology
activities to aid parents and students taking this class.

Use
the buttons on the left to take you to the special informational
resources
for General Biology. We use Miller and Levine's Biology,
2010 "The MaCaw Book"
in our General Biology Program. For
more
information
on our text book, you can link to the Prentice Hall web site by simply
clicking on the book.
Click
on the Miller and Levine Dragonfly
Web Site button to go to a directory
of resources for each chapter of the Dragonfly Book that can be
accessed
on-line. It also includes hot links, internet based activities,
and
chapter self tests to check your progress.
To
help you focus on the most important "key" ideas and concepts in
biology,
look for the
symbol in your textbook and online in Biology iText. These are
the
main ideas that you are responsible for learning and mastering in this
class.
Parents are encouraged to click
on the General Biology Letter to
Parents button under Special
Resources
to review the parent letter sent home at the beginning of the school
year to explain the nature of course, grading policies, and student
expectations. It includes a Parent
& Guardian Agreement Form
that should be signed and returned to class with your son or
daughter.
If for some reason you did not receive this, please download a copy and
return it to Mr. Thompson with your child or you can simply mail it to
the school. For a more detailed view of course policies,
please ckick on the Course Policies
button, this sheet was given to all students and reviewd on the first
day of class.
Parents who want to
help their children be successful and do well in this class are
encouraged to review the General
Biology Study Skills Sheet which was handed out to all students
and reviewed during the first days of class. Sometimes students
have difficulties in class because they have never really had to
"study" before; this sheet gives
concrete methods to help them with motivation, memorizing terms, and
even how to read and get the most out of our biology textbook.
